NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSEMENT

A neuropsychological assessment is a comprehensive assessment of cognition (thinking abilities) and behaviour using information obtained during a clinical interview and a set of standardised cognitive tests.

This type of assessment is typically recommended for situations in which an individual may have sustained either a traumatic brain injury (e.g., as a result of a motor vehicle accident, fall, sports injury or assault), acquired brain injury (e.g., as a result of stroke, tumour, or exposure to chemicals), neurodegenerative change (e.g., dementia, Parkinson’s disease) or any others change in the person’s functioning.  The main aim of the assessment is to determine cognitive strengths and weaknesses, assist with determining the cause of any difficulties, and to provide specific recommendations to assist recovery and return to independent living.
